What I’d Do Differently If I Started an Affiliate Blog Again (For Faster Results)
I didn’t start my blog with a perfect plan.
I just knew I wanted something of my own a space where I could write, share, and maybe one day make money from it.
So I did what most beginners do.
I bought my domain, set everything up, and started writing.
At first, it felt exciting. I was consistent, motivated, and honestly proud of myself for just starting.
But after a while… I started checking my dashboard.
And nothing was happening.
No clicks. No movement. Just silence.
It took me about 3 months to get my first click and by that point, I had already questioned everything.
What I Did When I First Started My Blog
In the beginning, I didn’t think too much about strategy.
I:
- wrote what I felt like writing
- didn’t focus on keywords
- didn’t really understand SEO
- added links without much thought
I thought consistency alone would be enough.
And while consistency matters… it’s not the full picture.
I also kept redesigning my travel blog… over and over again.
I think I changed it at least 10 times, trying to make it look “perfect” before I even had traffic.
Looking back, I realise I was focusing on how it looked instead of how it worked.
It felt productive at the time, but it didn’t actually bring in clicks.

Why My Blog Wasn’t Getting Clicks at First
Looking back now, it makes sense.
My blog wasn’t getting clicks because:
- I wasn’t targeting what people were actually searching
- my blog posts didn’t answer specific questions
- I didn’t structure my content for search engines
- my links were there… but not intentional
Basically, I was creating content but not searchable content.
And that’s a big difference.
What I Would Do Differently If I Started Again
If I could start over, I wouldn’t do more.
I would do things more intentionally.
Here’s exactly what I’d change:
1. I’d Choose a Clear Direction Early
Instead of writing about everything, I would focus on one area like travel or blogging.
That clarity helps both your audience and search engines understand your content.
2. I’d Use SEO From Day One
Not in a complicated way just simple things like:
- using real keywords in headings
- answering specific questions
- writing with search intent in mind
3. I’d Write Blogs People Are Already Searching For
Instead of guessing topics, I’d focus on:
- beginner questions
- “how to” searches
- real problems people want answers to
4. I’d Be More Intentional With My Links
Not just adding links but placing them where they make sense.
Where someone reading naturally thinks:
“Let me check that out.”
How I Got My First Click (Without Even Realising It)
The funny thing is, when my first click finally happened… I didn’t even notice right away.
It came from a travel-style blog I had written.
I had included a few helpful links nothing aggressive, nothing forced.
Just recommendations that made sense in the moment.
And one day, someone clicked.
It wasn’t a lot.
But it was real.
And that changed something for me.
How That First Click Turned Into a Booking
About two weeks later, something even more surprising happened.
That same type of content led to my first booking.
It wasn’t huge money.
But it was proof.
Proof that:
- someone read my content
- trusted it enough to click
- and actually took action
That’s when everything started to feel… possible.
What Actually Helps Blogs Get Clicks Faster
If I’m being honest, getting clicks isn’t about luck.
It’s about alignment.
Here’s what actually makes a difference:
- writing content people are already searching for
- keeping your posts clear and easy to read
- placing links naturally within helpful content
- focusing on value instead of just publishing
And most importantly:
being patient long enough to see results
Pros and Cons of Starting a Blog for Income
✔ Pros:
- You can build something that grows over time
- There’s real potential for passive income
- You don’t need a big audience to start
❌ Cons:
- It’s slow in the beginning
- Results are not immediate
- It requires consistency and patience
If I Was Starting Over Today (Simple Plan)
If I had to start from zero again, I would:
- Pick one clear niche
- Write 10–15 SEO-focused blogs
- Focus on beginner-friendly topics
- Add links naturally inside helpful content
- Stay consistent without overcomplicating it
Nothing fancy.
Just intentional.

A Loving Note to You
If you’re in that phase where nothing seems to be happening yet…
Where you’re showing up, writing, trying and not seeing results…
It doesn’t mean it’s not working.
It just means it hasn’t shown up yet.
That first click won’t change everything overnight.
But it will change how you see what’s possible.
With love,
Nia 🤍
